Education Vice President
Brodie Lewis
As Education Vice President, I am your spokesperson and support for education and welfare issues. All the student representatives at the Guild are here not only to represent your interests to the university and offer you their assistance and support, but also to listen to your ideas and experiences.
Educational and Welfare Assistance
Here at the Guild we know that sometimes university can be a struggle, and recognise that problems or issues in other areas of your life can seriously affect your ability to study. This is why the Guild tries to help in as many ways as possible. We offer educational assistance through tutoring and mentoring programmes, help with appeals, and many other services. If you are having any problems with your units, study, or uni in general, come and see me at the Guild, or visit our friendly Education and Welfare Officer, Emma Kingdon.
For the poverty stricken among you, the Guild runs many programmes and services that can help: we have furniture swaps, information on welfare and housing, a job register, an accommodation register, free second hand computers, all sorts of discounts on and off campus, and we run a free soup kitchen in Bush court.
Representation
The Guild is your voice, and we are here to make sure that students' interests are heard. I am your advocate and representative for education related issues to the university, the government, and the community. I sit on several university committees and working parties to make sure that students' interests and concerns are taken into account. I coordinate your student representatives on Divisional Boards and School Committees through the Education Board, so theoretically we can all know what is going on and talk to each other about issues students face in different parts of the uni.
I also work with the Education Action Group and other universities through the National Union of students to organise campaigns, protests and rallies for political issues affecting students. If you have any brilliant ideas as to how the Guild can help improve your educational experience here at Murdoch, come and talk to me. More than ever the Guild needs your involvement so please come and visit us sometime.
Good luck with your studies this year and have a great 2009!
